Launching the Borrow-It app!

• Borrow-it helps you save money on items and lets you rent out your stuff

• Bristol will see launch of the app which will tap into the community feel of the city

• Make use of the things you don't use, and find things you need!

Bristol is a city famed for its creativity, innovation and collective spirit. A new app, Borrow-it, is making the thoughtful, resourceful nature of Bristolians easy to do by putting borrowers and lenders in touch so that we can all save money, resources and time.

The concept is easy — if you've got a spare tent, roof box, skis, trailer or carpet cleaner lying around, you can rent them out for a daily rate. On the other hand, if you're having a garden party, or need to give your house a deep clean, you no longer need to make a one use, costly purchase. Instead, you can rent the item from someone close by for a fraction of its RRP, and give it back when you're finished. There's even functionality to request an item if you can't find it on the app.

Uploading an item takes seconds — simply take a photo, write a description and decide on a daily charge or lend for free. Unique insurance can be purchased for expensive items from as little as £1 a day, so your items will stay safe. Money is transferred securely via PayPal before the exchange is made, and the in-app messaging makes sure borrowers and lenders can interact throughout the whole process.

Borrow-it has been developed by James Fuller, a father of two from Devon. The idea came when James needed to borrow a phone charger while away from home and thought that technology should be able to solve this problem. After more than 12 months in development, the app was launched in May 2016 for beta testing.

He commented: "Bristol is the ideal place to launch the app, as the communal mentality and innovative approach of its residents means it lends itself perfectly to Borrow-it community. We're so excited for neighbours and locals to reconnect by sharing and saving resources using our app".

To get started with Borrow-it, simply download the app and upload your items, and have a browse to see what's in your area.

To download the app, visit the app store. Borrow-it is currently only available for iPhone.
